'Die besten Filme aller Zeiten' present action packed and unforgettable movie classics on Thursdays during July to September. Special highlights: 'Platoon' on Thu., 08/07, at 10:15 p.m. and 'Glory' on Thu., 16/09., at 11:15 p.m.
In the classic action movie 'Platoon', Chris Taylor [Charlie Sheen], a student from a wealthy family finds it unfair that only poor people and persons belonging to minorities fight – and die – for Uncle Sam in Vietnam. He volunteers for the front. Soon he comes to the horrible understanding that nobody here dies for America's honour, only one thing counts: Surviving at any cost. It does not take long until the disillusioned ex-idealist has blood on his hands, too
A whole different topic is dealt with in 'Glory' directed by Edward Zwick. American Civil War, 1862: The young white northern state Colonel Shaw [Matthew Broderick] receives a special task. He is supposed to set up the first entirely African-American infantry regiment. But the black people want to fight for their rights on their own. As a reaction to this a wave of ignorance and racism hits them. Nevertheless, Shaw manages to transform his recruits into powerful troops and they are supposed to attack the impregnable Fort Wagner. Movie highlights:
