 General rules & regulations German TV Advertising
TV advertisement has to be visually labelled and has to be clearly separated from the program [minimum length of the separating advertisement jingle 3 seconds and must contain the label "advertisement"]. Advertisement jingles may not contain program elements.

 Certain types and contents of advertising are prohibited

Advertisement content has to comply at any time with the legal requirements of the Basic Constitutional Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, the regulations for the protection of minors, the regulations of consumer protection and other applicable law.

Ban of advertisement for tobacco goods and pharmaceutics only available on prescription.

Restricted advertisement for alcoholic drinks.

Ban of surreptitious and subliminal advertising.

 Placement of advertisement in the program

Restriction of advertising volume to 12 minutes per hour [20%].

News and political programs, documentaries and programs with religious contents with a broadcasting time of at least 30 minutes may be interrupted by advertising.
20-minute intervals between two commercial breaks [45 minutes for movies] are mandatory.

No midbreak advertisement in children programs [only between programs].

Block advertising [min. two advertisement spots] is compulsory, permission of exclusive commercial breaks [single spot] in exceptional cases.
