UEFA Champions League goes the last season in Sat.1
August 2005
Sat.1 will only show the matches of the UEFA Champions League one more season.
Within the last weeks ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG had done its best in intensive negotiations for the rights acquisition as of the coming season, however always emphasized that the rights had to be fungible both as regards content and economically. The group has gone to the bounds of the feasible with its bid.

Sat.1 is today in the excellent situation not to be dependent on the live broadcasts of the UEFA Champions League matches with quotas in mind. The influence on the yearly total audience share was 0.05 percentage points in 2004. It might still drop out considerably lower in 2005 due to the daily strong performance in the eve with “Verliebt in Berlin” and “K 11”.

Dr. Roger Schawinski: “It´s a pity that we can only show the matches of the Champions League one more season. This is a thrilling program. Fact is though, the success of Sat.1 is today no longer dependent on the rolling ball. We will invest the freely nascent capital in new own programs and look around for attractive, payable sports rights also in the future. We are sorry that the supply of attractive sports rights has massive run short in the strong in reach Free-TV through the license decision and a big part of the viewers remains excluded in future.”
