ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, Betty Mitmach TV GmbH and Serviceplan-Agenturgruppe test future of TV
September 2004 ProSiebenSat.1-group, Betty Mitmach TV GmbH and Serviceplan Agenturgruppe für innovative Kommunikation presented today a completely new concept for interactive TV. Central element of the “Betty“-technology is a new generation of TV-remote control. Different from all existing concepts for interactive TV, Betty works with the present TV-equipment: Betty needs no set-top-box and is applicable for both analog and digital TV-reception. Betty opens viewers the possiblility to use value-added services as games, votings or shopping and access to detailed information via a wireless feedback channel to the telephone socket. The new technology, which is unique in this form worldwide is being examined since September 6th, 2004 in a field test with the stations Sat.1, ProSieben, Kabel 1 and N24. The field test will run until end of October 2004.
Betty-remote control has its own display on which the accompanying services and applications to the running program are shown. For this purpose the viewer only needs a wireless SCART-adapter, which is plugged into the TV set. Via a coding in the non-visible range of the TV-picture, the adapter reads the information from the TV-picture and sends it wireless to the Betty-remote control. A mini-wireless-modem, which is plugged in the normal telephone socket, serves as feedback channel.
Betty’s Range of Applications
Programming applications: Through the direct answer feature Betty opens up various new possibilities. Particularly for entertainment- and information-offers the direct participation-nature of TV is enhanced. Viewers can directly take part in the TV-events – and this in real time and without changing the media, as the Betty-remote control serves as feedback channel itself. You can participate for instance in quiz shows, contests or votings with Betty. Furthermore additional information can be requested via Betty – as before via teletext, faxback or mobile – about the TV-format. Also collecting and recording of virtual discount tickets, the so-called “couponing“ is possible with Betty.
